Thompson Writing Program Fellowships

Almost all of the sections of Writing 20 at Duke are designed and taught by a multidisciplinary cadre of postdoctoral scholars whom we call TWP Writing Fellows. The initial term of contract is three years, renewable after review for two more years. Fellows teach five sections of Writing 20 per year, with each section limited to 12 students. Salaries and benefits are competitive, and Fellows are offered strong and ongoing support as both teachers and scholars. These professional development efforts are supported in large part through a generous grant from the Mellon Foundation.

While the TWP Fellows vary widely in their disciplinary training--from Biology and Engineering to Political Science and Sociology to English and History and Philosophy--a common interest in teaching undergraduates unites their work. Most Fellows plan to move on from the TWP to tenure-stream teaching positions in their own disciplines, and we hold a strong track record in helping them do so.

We expect to offer about six new TWP Fellowships in 2010-2011. We invite you to browse our website to learn more about our approaches to teaching academic writing. If you decide to apply for a Fellowship, we strongly encourage you to use our online application form.   Please contact Professor Kristen Neuschel, kneusche@duke.edu Director of the Thompson Writing Program, if you have any questions.
