LET'S RESEARCH: Gathering Evidence
to Support Writing Center Work

Keynote Speaker: Neal Lerner

Neal LernerIn his 2004 keynote speech at the Watson conference in Louisville, Neal Lerner writes, “I believe it’s a terrific time to be a writing center researcher, to think about the kinds of knowledge that might be gained from systematic, multi-dimensional, and creative approaches to studying writing center work. I invite you to join me in that effort.”

We’ve accepted Lerner’s call to bring writing centers again into research mode, and are glad to welcome him to share in our findings in Chapel Hill.  What you might not know is that Lerner brings his experience as a researcher, an advocate, and a leader in the field to inspire and challenge us to see the potential of writing centers and writing center scholarship.   Many of you know his voice of wisdom and inquiry through postings on wcenter and his publications.  He currently helps guide our flagship Writing Center Journal as co-editor with Beth Boquet and serves on the IWCA board. With Paula Gillespie, Lerner also co-authored “The Allyn and Bacon Guide to Peer Tutoring."
